When you have a dog you need to walk them at least twice a day. If you live in England and you have a dog this can mean that you must go out at least twice a day in all kinds of crazy weather. Having Ollie taught me to appreciate being outside in all weathers. If it was ridiculously cold and rainy he would sometimes walk a few metres and then turn round and drag me back to the caravan but generally we went out in all weathers and I learnt to appreciate being outside whatever the weather was like.
I am still going out for walkies twice a day. It felt a bit weird at first walking about without a lead in my hand and a poo bag in my pocket but I am getting used to it!
Having dogs teaches you to appreciate your surroundings. You notice the plans, the insects and the small animals that surround you. You also end up talking to other people more.
Having dogs generally makes you more observant and more appreciative of where you are.
The good news is I still feel the same appreciation on my solo walks.
Being out in nature is wonderfully relaxing and I am learning to appreciate every moment I spend exploring it.
